A friend of mine has suggested Windows Server 2022 as a replacement for WIN 10 PRO.  And thoughts or recommendations?

The retail price of Server 2022 is above $500.  My guess is your friend is recommending a source of dubious origin that may be bootleg and not legit.

My strong recommendation will be to look into Windows 10 ESU and opatch and not use a server operating system as a workstation.

not worth getting Windows Server 2022 as it uses a much different version/build number than Win10; Win10 updates are incompatible with Server 2022 and vice-versa.
so I’d lean towards what Susan has suggested.

Windows Server 2022 is based on the “Iron” codebase. It is similar to Windows 10 21H2, but its updates are incompatible with it.
