Considering upgrading to Server 2012 and have been trying to make sure that I can get the right printer drivers.

    I have checked with:
    HP
    Dell
    Canon
    Brother
    Epson

None of the above have any drivers listed for ANY printer and all their tech helps say “if its not listed it we don’t support it”

All of then have 64 bit drivers for windows 7&8. Can I use these for Server 2012?

Short answer is: it will most likely work **

** To expand on the above, mixing drivers from several manufacturers on the one print server may be a bit messy depending on how well the drivers are written.

Personally I would attempt to stick with Windows 8 x64 drivers for your use case and more importantly try and stay true to PCL5e/PCL6 or Postscript drivers and avoid “Universal” *cough HP* and GDI based print drivers.

We haven’t got any WS2012 Print servers yet still on 2008 R2.

The printer drivers are not normally used by Windows server, they are stored there for workstations to use. As long as you are using Windows 7/8 on the PC all will be well.
Not recommended, but as a work around you can load the drivers on the PC and print direct.

      cheers, Paul
