I have a table of contents (manual, not automatic) that lists a number of documents. To the right of each document listing is a column called “Tab No.”, which tells the user which tab divider to look under to find that document. It looks something like this:

    Document Name……………………………………………………………………Tab No.
    Purchase and Sale Agreement……………………………………………………1
    Operating Agreement…………………………………………………………………..2
    Bill of Sale…………………………………………………………………………………….3
    etc.

The numbers in the Tab No. column need to be consecutive. How do I make those automatic numbers?

I’ve tried using the AutoNum field and the ListNum field plus a few other fields, but they always put a period after the number. As far as I know, there’s no way to edit out that period.

I’m sure there must be a simple way to do this, but I can’t figure it out.

If you don’t mind inserting the fields manually, check out the SEQ field.

Thanks, Jefferson. I have to leave the office now, but I’ll check it out.
