• Send/Receive Snag (Outlook 2003)

    Good evening to all…

I recently bought a new desktop and installed Office 2003, including Outlook 2003, on it. All has been proceeding smoothly, with one small exception: when I either create a new message or reply to an incoming message, Outlook does not send my message unless I click the Send/Receive button. In other words, when I’ve completed my message, I click the Send button. Outlook then puts my message in the Outbox and leaves it there until I click the Send/Receive button. Is there a setting that I can change so that when I click the Send button my message actually gets sent?

    Thanks in advance…

      Select Tools | Options…
      Activate the Mail Setup tab.
Make sure that the “Send messages immediately when connected” check box is ticked.

        Hi Hans,

You have helped me out many times on the Excel board, and now you’ve done it again on the Outlook board. That was the problem…

It makes one (well, let’s say it makes ME) wonder why Microsoft would set up such a default…

Thank you once again for your invaluable help…

I have the same problem but my “send messages immediately when connected” box is checked.

Is there something else I can do?

Try clearing the check box, then OK your way out.
Activate the dialog again, and tick the check box, then OK your way out.

            Nope.

Didn’t work. I still have to click Send/Receive to either send or receive emails.

            Any other ideas?

            Thanks.
