If I single-click on a file on a floppy in Explorer, the system appears to read the file from the floppy. If the file is large, this can lead to a tedious delay. If the file is a 500kB Word document, I might have to wait 10 seconds before I can regain control of the system.

Is there any way of turning off this behaviour of pre-loading files?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Do you have Indexing or Fast Find or real-time Virus Checking running ?

Yes, Leif. You’ve hit the nail on the head, thank you. It’s the Anti-Virus software that’s causing the delay doh. I guess it’s something I’ll put up with.

        Thanks again

Is your browser set to ‘single click to open’ (Folder Options>View)?
