I am using Windows 10 which is patched through January.  I use, for varying purposes, 4 browsers:  Google Chrome; Edge; Opera; and Firefox.  I use Malwarebytes and Acronis’s protection suite for malware.  Computer is a Lenovo desktop which is about 6 years old.  I use NordVPN as well.

Recently, I have found that all four browsers refuse to load webpages (so the problem does not seem to be related to a specific browser).  There is no error message that I can find; I just get a blank page and the tab on the browser indicates it is trying to load the page.

I have tried various changes in my setup to see if that fixes the problem.  I toggled the VPN on and off (because it is becoming increasingly clear that some websites refuse to load if you are using a VPN).  I turned off Malwarebytes and the Acronis suite.  I looked at Windows Defender, but it indicates that it is defaulting to the Acronis suite.  I had a global privacy extension in a browser and deleted it.

I have another computer at the same location set up pretty much the same way which does not have any of these problems.

I am at a loss as to what additionally I can do to cure the problem.

You are going to have enable the browser diagnostic / development features to debug further or May have to use some external network monitoring sniffer tools like an additional machine & a hub or equivalent to look at network traffic.

Unlikely to need the browser diags given it happens with all browsers.

Either you have a DNS issue, a routing issue or a broken IP stack.
You should reset the IP stack first.
If that doesn’t work, delete the network adapter in Device Manager and then reboot and re-install.
Last you might need to re-install over the top.

      cheers, Paul

DNS is a likely suspect. To test if it is DNS, modify each browser. Go into the secure DNS settings of the browsers and set each one for a different DNS provider. Then verify that the browser is using that DNS provider here

      https://routersecurity.org/testdns.php

      Suggested DNS providers are here

      https://routersecurity.org/DNS.providers.php

If a web page/site fails to load in each browser, when each is using a different DNS service, then DNS is not the problem and you can move on to another suspect. Browser DNS settings should over-ride OS level, router and SSID level DNS settings.
