Select multiple records in a continuous form or in a table

One can easily select multiple adjacent records by dragging through the record selectors. Is it possible to select records that are NOT adjacent?
This is so basic, I cannot decide if I’ve forgotten something or am I just crazy! Thanks much.

A little more research tells me it cannot be done. It seems the recommendation is typically to include a yes/no field for the user to check. And use the checked field to select multiple records. Thanks folks, for any head scratching you did on my behalf.
