Dear All

Hello again. I’m about to be off work for some time following an operation, during this time I’m hoping to get some work done on a database I’m developing for my employer. My problem is quite simple, it’s a secure database and I don’t know whether I’ll be able to use the changes when the system is returned to the company’s network.

I’ll be using a copy of the current security work group file on my home PC, so, when the database is put back on the network for testing, will the new forms, queries etc be accepted by the workgroup file on the network? I’m guessing that I’ll have to go through as owner and set the permissions on these items from scratch. If it’s more complex than that I’d like to know now.

The main system is in use already, the development work is to cover a new requirement that’s emerged.

If the workgroup file you use at home is a copy of the one used at work, there should be no problem; all permissions you set at home should be valid at work too.

The best way to use a secured database is through a shortcut that opens the database with the workgroup. This is easier than explicitly joining a different workgroup each time you want to use one. The target of the shortcut should look like this:

“C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeMSAccess.exe” “C:AccessMyDatabase.mdb” /wrkgrp “C:AccessSecured.mdw”

Of course, the target of the shortcut would be different at work.

Further to Hans’ suggestion.

For home use, I find it convenient to add username and password into the shortcut, by adding these two extra sections to the end of the shortcut.

/user yourusername /pwd yourpassword
