Everytime I boot up the computer, I get the most annoying message that I have the Automatic Windows Security Alerts notification turned off and I’m AT RISK!! How do I get rid of this annoyance? I have that feature turned off but I don’t know how to remove the icon and its message from my system tray.

What program is generating this notification ??? It should be identified in the upper left corner of the window the message is in.

The Windows Security Center is generating it. I have the update notification turned off but I still get that message saying automatic updates are turned off.

I just downloaded and installed SP2 and a zillion updates along with the Updater. And I got this Security Center thing. HELP!! PLEASE!!

Go to Control Panel | Security Center. Then in the left panel click on “Change the way Security Center alerts me” and set it as you please.

I do have the automatic update turned off in this area.

My computer at home and the one at work are virtually identical and interestingly, this morning I did NOT get that annoying message and the security center is not in my system tray. Maybe the latest updates corrected that or maybe it got tired of notifiying me shrug , so I have one computer happy!

            Thanks for your help, Joe.

But, just for the record, since it isn’t clear from your response if you went where Joe was sending you. In this cropped screenshot, note the box on the left which will lead to a window with three checkboxes you need to un-check if you don’t want any notifications. As you can see I have the automatic updates turned off, but that alone doesn’t stop the warning messages. By the way, note that mine says firewall is on, but that’s ZoneAlarm, not the Windows variety.

Big Al, I had done what Joe suggested. I’ll have to wait till I get home to make sure that all the various opportunities to turn off automatic update are actually off (I think they are). Nothing is checked in automatic updates at work and today I do not have that icon in my system tray . I downloaded a whole bunch of security updates and stuff yesterday so maybe that was “fixed” thru them. No idea. I also do not use Windows firewall.

              Thanks for the response!

ah HA! I thought I’d turned off automatic updates everywhere here at home, but I had not! As soon as I checked where Joe suggested I discovered that everything had checkmarks that I thought I’d turned off elsewhere. They are now unchecked and that stupid icon is gone.

              YIPPEE!!!
