I have a list of names, salaries and bonus rates (as percentages). If I create a column chart based on this data and then add a secondary axis, Excel ‘clusters’ the data. that is each name has one column, split to two colours. How can I separate these? That is, I want the name once and two columns – one for salary and one for bonus rate. Thanks, Andy.

The idea is to add a blank dummy series after the series on the primary axis, and blank dummy series before the series on the secondary axis. This shifts the series.
See the attached workbook, and look at Chart | Source Data, Series tab to see how the dummy series are defined.

I’ve never done much work with charts before but am starting to delve into them. After downloading your attached file, I tried to duplicate it as an exercise. All went well except I was unable to CREATE a secondary axis. Is this not available in xl 2000?

Do it like this:

– Click on your new chart.

– Select the Bonus series from the dropdown on the Chart toolbar.
– Select Format | Selected Series…
– Activate the Axis tab.
– Click Secondary axis.
– Click OK.

– Select the Series4 series from the dropdown on the Chart toolbar.
– Select Format | Selected Series…
– Activate the Axis tab.
– Click Secondary axis.
– Activate the Series Order tab.
– Click Move Up to make Series4 the first series plotted on the secondary axis.
– Click OK.

Thanks,

Just one item left: How do you include or rather, exclude a *series* label from the Legend?

• #1034121

Click on the legend.
Click on an undesired label.
Press Delete.

Great. Works a treat.
Click on an undesired label.
Press Delete
Is there any way to undo this, short of deleting the legend and recreating it?

• #1034315

Immediately after deleting it, you can select Edit | Undo, click the Undo button on the toolbar or press Ctrl+Z.
if you’ve done other things in between, deleting and recreating the legend is the only way to get a deleted legend entry back.
if you’ve done other things in between, deleting and recreating the legend….
I’m usually more in that boat…

Thanks, Hans.

One thing to empahsize with Hans’ instructions

The entire entry, marker and name, must be selected before the delete is pressed.

If only the Marker is selected when delete is pressed, the series will be removed from the chart
