search tells me that no matches can be found – when there are dozens of appropriate entries. I have archived most of my inbox to give it a chance – but to no avail. However, if I log on via safe mode – outlook works perfectly!!! Outlook is an included location in the indexing dialog – and appears to be indexing successfully – the search on the start menu works fine, but only turns up files

Can anyone help please? Regards Roberta

If you used Outlook’s auto-archive feature, the messages would be moved into a different Personal Folders File, usually named archive.pst. It might take a while for the index to be updated to the new location, assuming that it is in fact updated to the new location. (I don’t use Windows indexing, so I’m not sure.)

When you search using Windows Explorer or Start>Search, make sure you check the box to search in hidden files and folders.

What is your operating system? For Outlook 2007’s instant search your need to be running Windows XP with desktop search installed or Windows Vista (desktop search is part of this OS). You need to check you indexing scheme to make sure that the appropriate Outlook files are included.
