Search Indexer has stopped working (Vista)

Well, I’m having fun, how about you? Latest problem: “Microsoft Windows Search Indexer has stopped working” Happens every time I sign on. I have stopped it by going into services and setting Windows Search to “disabled”. Sure would rather not. This seems to have something to do with “Data Execution Prevention settings”. Says I can turn it off for an individual program. Is that something that I want to do??

Any ideas?

If you want to have Search Indexing running then go ahead and disable DEP for it. See Data Execution Prevention – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more information on DEP.

Well, I went to DEP and attempted to add Search Indexing to it, and Vista refused. Any other ideas?

Refused? What was the exact error message? See Adding Exceptions To Data Execution Prevention (DEP) – Windows XP Service Pack 2. Even thought it is for XP SP-2 the same general steps should work for Vista.
