    Hello.

I’ve looked and looked and I can’t find this problem listed anywhere. Has anyone encountered it? and more importantly, did you find a solution?

A while back I did a clean installation of Win 2K on my PC (i.e. I didn’t upgrade my previous Win 98 installation). Worked fine. When SP1 came out I tried installing that. Installation worked OK as did, so I thought, Win2K, until I tried the search facility (i.e Start / Search / For Files and Folders…). It just hangs. Most of the rest of windows runs OK while it’s hanging (i.e. it’s not a major CPU hog) but it just hangs. The search window gets displayed but the search input panel down the left hand side remains blank. If I kill the process it goes, but if I try again the problem reoccurs. This was a while back. Sometime later someone lent me their CD of Win 2K with SP1 already applied. Once again I cleared everything out and installed and this time it worked fine. Fast forward to the present and SP2. I tried installing SP2 on my PC. Installation went without a hitch but after rebooting I get exactly the same problem with the Search dialog as I did before. I rolled back to SP1 and the problem has gone (phew!) but I would really like to install SP2. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Simon
