• Screen goes black – computer beeps

My Dell Inspiron 530 screen went black while in use. The computer started beeping – four beeps then a pause – continuously.  The hard drive started spinning at high rate. Does this mean anything to any other Vista users. Thanks for any help.  T-Bone Charlie.

Dell beep code for the Inspiron 530 are here.
Four beeps seems to indicate RAM read/write failure.
Run the Dell Diagnostics, replacing RAM is easy (if you can find it for an older machine).

It’s easy check if the ram card is fully in the slot and flick the switches down.

Probably the CPU fan going into failsafe (fast), protecting the CPU from overheating, when the temperature control on the motherboard isn’t working.

      cheers, Paul
