Sorry if this has been gone over before, (not having the search is a real downer) but I need advice from anyone who can help please.
I currently have assignment to retrieve data from a SCO Unix server through a windows based workstation. At present I’m sql’ing into unloaded files and then ftp’ing the files to local windows folder.
BUT, I know out that there’s a couple of ODBC drivers (transoft is one of them) that permits me to delve straight into the databases without the need for SQL/FTP unloading.
Does anyone have any experience in retrieving from SCO Unix via MS Access or even MS Query and if so, whats the recommended drivers?
(The database is informix?? but does the driver necessarily have to come from them?)
    TIA

Did you ever get a reply to this post? I have the need for an odbc driver or an informatix database to be used with Access. Thanks.

WOW! blast from the past, this post is now in danger of being an antique (in computing terms I guess).
Basically, No, didn’t get a reply to this post.
However, I went to local college and whilst on another unrelated course enquired if anyone had experience of this problem.
No-one had anything new to add.
So, I have to rely on the basics until new methods are available:
Here’s the method I use: (depends on individuals network installation)
        Open a telnet session (Windows>run>telnet)
set term vt100 (‘cos thats the cursor type and reactions I need)
open connection to my network server by IP address e.g. open 105.210.1.10
this logs onto the preinstalled informix server
        login by usernmae and password
when all run through quit to command line
type in DBACCESS to start application
use sql command to return data from tables and databases.

Very long routed, very time consuming, no guarantee of it working on other installations.

Sory if this doesn’t help but I guess that the upcoming windows system, with unix integration MAY help a bit more.
