    My office mates and I each run Windows 7, and are using Fujitsu’s ScanSnap desktop scanners. We have recently discovered that the ScanSnap software has appropriated the use of the Ctrl-Shift-Space key combination. Using that combination brings up the ScanSnap software. The trouble is that the same key combination is used to insert a non-breaking space character in Microsoft Word. That’s something that we all use a lot in Word.

    Since we’ve all used Word for years and are familiar with its default key combinations, we’d like to change the ScanSnap hotkeys, rather than changing the Word shortcut key. Right-clicking on the ScanSnap files in the Windows Start menu does not reveal any assigned shortcut keys.

    My first inclination was just to scrap the ScanSnap software and use a TWAIN driver for all the scanning. Sadly, that’s not possible. Fujitsu has decided that it will never issue a TWAIN driver for the ScanSnap. They want you to use their software.

    Has anyone else run into this issue? Any solutions?

      Having the same issue and ScanSnap support isn’t helpful.

      Welcome to the Lounge for both of you. New users are always very welcome.

      See if this How To Geekarticle will help.

        Nice way to program new keys but we need Word to regain use of the ctrl+shift+space for nonbreaking space and disable the snapscan hotkey.

      Can’t you reprogram the Snapscan key combination to something else, then program the Word key combination to what you want?

      That is the thought but I have been unable to figure out how to change the Snapscan hot keys. Next step is to dig into the registry.

      Found that if you edit the registry, you can delete the ctrl+sft+space from SnapShot. Find the PfuSsMon32.cfg file (Mine was located in my ApplicationData/PFU/ScanSnap. There were others in subfolders of ScanSnap, but you want the one in hte main folder). This document opens in Notepad. Right below the first line which states [config], insert:
      IsRegist_HotKey=0
      as a new line. This will eliminate the keyboard shortcut from bringing up scansnap.

        This eliminate all the SnapScan takeovers of certain keys, or just the ctrl+shift+space combination?

          I only had the ctrl+shft+del keys that took over, so not sure about the others.

            You can use the following program to deactivate the shortcut:
            C:Program Files (x86)PFUScanSnapDriverHotKeyDisable.exe
