Saving slide layout (XP)

I have a slide layout I created using a table and merged cells that I use a lot. Right now, I copy and paste each time I want to use it. Is there a way to add the layout to that list of possible layouts on the right side?

Copying and pasting is probably the fastest way. You can also create a presentation to store slides with a custom layout that you want to reuse. You can then use Insert | Slides from Files… to insert a custom slide into the current presentation.

Hans’s workarounds are indeed the way to go because, unfortunately, you cannot add placeholders or new slide layouts.
