Saving settings in Excel 2010

Have terrible trouble getting Excel 2010 to behave:
Did most of my work with Excel 2003 under WinXP.

Have now bought a new PC with W7, and a separate Office 2010 Home premium pack.

Am trying to set Excel2010 to:
– not move cursor after entry
– customise ribbon to show developer tool (want to run MS Code Compatibility Inspector to see if macro’s from X2003 will create problems)
-establish trusted location
– trust VBA projects, etc.

But none of these settings are saved; developer tool does not show, no matter what; trusted locations are even gone when I reopen file/options/customise ribbon in the same worksheet!

Must admit I have fiddled with the registry, (after also having installed Excel 2003 on a separate partition) following several MS Knowledge base recipes. Now I am also getting errors like “can’t open project or library” when trying to run macro’s: Yesterday, opening of excel2003 files worked, if I separately activated name manager and solver addins (both of which are used in the excel2003 files), now that has also gone down the drain.

Feel like I have no other option than reformat my PC, re-install Windows7 and Office 2010. Grateful any suggestions, regards, MB47

Fiddling with the registry is not recommended.
I have Win7 that has Excel2003, Excel2007 and Excel2010 all available, and running without any problems.

The trick is to install them in this order.
You don’t need to install in separate partitions.

When you install Excel2010, it asks you whether you want to keep prior versions of Excel.

What if this is not an upgrade, but on an empty PC? MS recommends Office 2003 first, then 2010, KB2121447.

But then I don’t upgrade, just install a second version.

Does yr version of Excel2010 keep all settings (trusted locations, ribbon customisation etc) when you save a file(to a template?)

I wasn’t referring to ‘upgrades’.
I was referring to installing different versions of Excel on the same PC.
In my case, it was to install Office 2003, then Office 2007, then Office 2010.
(The only restriction is you can only have one version of Outlook)

My Excel2010 keeps all settings.

Zeddy, perhaps some semantics:

Am afraid that if I start to load 2010 after 2003, I get the message: “do you want to upgrade”and then the answer should be “NO”. Being a nerd and a Murphy-fan I sometimes see more potential problems, than there actually may be.

On my original question: have just restored my Dell PC to factory settings and am about to reload 2003, tehn 2010! Did not need a Win7 disk
