Saving Form takes a long time? ( A2k (9.0.4402) SR-1)

I have a Criteria Form that has the following controls:

18 Criteria Check Boxes
18 Start Criteria Combo Boxes
18 End Criteria Combo Boxes
Options Group with 18 Sort Options

There is code behind check and combo boxes to do some verification, and build proper SQL command.

The form works OK and is relatively fast, however in design mode, after changes, save takes approx. 1

I’ve seen this before, especially with A2000. Is there a split frontend/backend? If so, is frontend local or on server? Have you compacted database lately?

Do you have Name Autocorrect turned on, especially with logging? That can add significantly to the time it takes to save a form.

Unchecked Name Auto-Correct and shaved off 1 minute on the previous 1 1/2 minute form save.

What did I give up by disabling Name Auto-Correct?

Are there any other unnecessary options that can be disabled?

Did you uncheck *both* options? If not, do so. It’s intended to keep track of object name changes so you don’t have to go back and edit your queries, etc., when you change a table or field or query name. Unfortunately, it also creates a huge amount of database bloat through its logging activities and has so many other drawbacks that it’s better to turn it off and run Speed Ferret or Find and Replace when you need to update things.

The other thing is subdatasheets. They’re on by default and they have to be turned off table by table, although there is sample code in on-line help that you can use to turn them off on all the tables at once. They look useful but, like Name Autocorrect, they cause problems. In fact, I’ve seen them cause a noticeable delay in opening a local table.
