I’m developing an application in Excel 2002, but want it to be able to run independently in 97 as well.

Whenever 97 saves the workbookit displays a mindless warning about potential loss of features (because the creator was a more recent version of Excel). Even if I do a saveas in 97, the NEW file when reopened will still create the warning.

I coded a BeforeSave event routine but find the warning is coming up BEFORE the routine executes. I thought of saying a naughty word, but it didn’t help.

Anyone have any clues? Am I doomed to having to copy all the content sheet by sheet into a 97 created workbook – even then, will 2002 just ‘improve’ it again later?

I don’t have XL97 or 2002, so I have no way of testing. However, if the message is displayed before the Before Save event routine, then I don’t think that there is going to be any way around it. The best solution I can offer is to create the workbook in XL97 and send that version to 2002.
