I could have the wrong read on this but I’m trying to see if there is a way that I can retain banking information (of course, minus the password which is always required) on my home computer. I think that this information is cleared every time I delete cookies. If my assumption is correct, is there anyway of protecting my bank website’s cookie whenever I choose to delete all cookies? I’m running FireFox 3.0.4.

I’m afraid I don’t know enough about cookie management to answer your question, but I’m wondering if there is any particular reason you are using such an old and insecure version of Firefox? The current version is 3.5.1.

Try CookieCuller from Mozilla Add-ons. It protects the ones you want and can get rid of the ones you don’t.
It’s not recent so you may have to do a search.
You may also want the MR Toolkit to make CookieCuller compatible if you update to Fx 3.5.

Is there any good reason that you delete cookies? You’ve seen the downside of deleting them.

Thanks All. I will update my copy of FF and look at the Cookie Culler add-on. Joe, I guess I’m just in the habit of “decluttering” my harddrive by deleting history, cookies, temp files etc. every so often. I also have a feeling that some family members (~ahem~) don’t want mum to see where they have surfed so I find that my history and cookies are being deleted far more often than I probably would do it:)

You can create a personal profile for each user. That would be safer than letting any family member access your bank account. More info: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles

Excellent advice! I will definitely look into that. And for the record, I upgraded FF to 3.5 and found the add on “Cookie Culler”….works like a charm.

Using the Options dialog (Tools > Options > Privacy) you can instruct Firefox to keep your cookies, or toss them. Using the “Keep until” setting, you can even have the browser check with you about each new site you visit (and related sites…). I use “ask me every time,” but bear in mind that it gets tiring if you are visiting dozens of new sites in the same sitting.

Alternately, you can manually add an exception to keep cookies for individual sites as long as the site specifies. Simply copy the host name (http://the.host.name[/b]/folder/page.php), click the Exceptions button, and enter it into the Exceptions dialog using the Allow button.

This won’t protect a cookie when you clear “all.”
