    Hi,

Thanks for all the help. I got stuck with Office 2007, what a lot of change for the sake of change. I hate it. I’ve managed to add the autocorrect entries I had in Word 2000 by brute force copying.
My newest problem is setting custom margins as default. Each time, I have to go through the format and click “most recent customization” and then print. How can I make th e”most recent customization” the default for Word.

Hi Bruce, this seemed like a very different topic, so I split it into a new thread. Hopefully this will make the answer easier for others to find once we figure out what it is.

Double Click on the top half of the Ruler (not the bottom half or you will set a tab). This brings up the Page Setup menu. Select the margins you want and on the bottom left check Default.

When Word is first installed, there might not be a Normal.dot (pre-Word 2007) or Normal.dotm template in the Templates folder (on XP, C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates). However, if you do have one, you can right-click and Open it and make formatting changes to the template that will carry over to all future new blank documents.

As Redbeard42 has said, there is a “Default” button at the bottom of the Page Setup dialog — once you set your preferred margins there, click the Default button and click “Yes” when Word asks if you’re sure you want to apply the changes to all future documents based on the NORMAL template.

There are several different ways to open the Page Setup dialog in Word 2007. You can double-click at the bottom of the Ruler per Redbeard42, or you can click the Page Layout tab, navigate to the Page Setup group, and click the dialog launcher (the arrow at the bottom right side of that group), or you can press the Alt key, then press the letters P, S, P in sequence. (There are other methods, too.)

To me, setting your default via the dialog is somewhat easier than trying to find and edit the NORMAL template. But that’s certainly another way to do the same thing (you open the NORMAL template — normal.dotm in Word 2007 — then set the margins via the Page Setup dialog or any other way that you find easy, then save the template and close it).

      Good luck! Let us know.

Thank you all very much. I’m sure I’ll be back before I get the hang of this thing. There’s no manual and the “Help” function is useless to be merciful.

I finally got the macro function working, too. Talk about non-intuitive. I’ve been using Word since the first edition and everything has been turned topsy turvey. In the old days, the only changes that usually occurred were Microsoft’s incorporation of Woody’s utilities in the next edition. Now…
