I have never used Safari as I felt Edge with antivirus software looking over its shoulder was safer. However, looking at AKB2000014 on Woody to see the latest IOS version I was surprised to see a version update for Safari. I always thought the IOS update was all I needed for my iPhone SE.

So I thought I would update Safari. Turned on cellular data for Safari to use and clicked it to see if it would update. It just sat there with a spinning wheel. So I tried going to the Apple store to see if I could download a new, current Safari. Still just a spinning wheel because I guess it takes Safari to download apps.

Any suggestions on how to make Safari current, short of buying a new phone?

    Thanks in advance.

Safari is automatically updated with iOS.

Well I found out my Safari in the address field just had “http” where I guess I was about to browse something years ago so it was just spinning looking for that I guess.

I retyped the address using woody.com and it opened Woody right up.

Safari is automatically updated with iOS.

I guess that is also why I could not find a way to update the version. Thanks PKCano.

Safari is part of any iOS/iPadOS update and always is up to date.
So, Safari version is the version of your iOS. If you are on iOS 17.x
      Safari version is 17.x

There is no way to download/update Safari on its own.

Many thanks Alex and PKCano. I am on 17.6. All working great.

For years I did not know Edge and Chrome had to be updated separately from Win 10 until Susan kept telling everyone to update browsers immediately. So I thought it followed that Safari should do the same but looks like Apple handles that in a different manner.
