• Router as repeater WPA?

I setup a repeater router (Netgear) and was told I could only use the WEP security option for wireless. Are there routers out there that can use the WPA security option for repeating function?

    Thanks in advance – Mark

I would have thought a better aerial on your existing router would remove the need to use a repeater.
If you are using the router as a wireless access point for an existing LAN you may have difficulty – I tried doing this last year and had no luck with the wireless unit I was using, it was WEP or nothing.

A quick search turned up this Dlink AP which seems to do the job.

One thing you both omitted was that when using the router as a repeater you cut your speed IN HALF due to it’s having to receive and ‘repeat’ the data.

Why is the speed cut in half? As long as the repeater is able to repeat faster than your PC can send/receive data then you will see almost no degradation.

      cheers, Paul
