    After losing and having my power restored last night, I restarted my computer and everything seemed normal until I went to sign in to my Roboform password manger in Chrome.

    Usually, what I do is right click on the taskbar icon and then click show toolbar then click the log in button on the toolbar. (Since clicking the extension icon doesn’t make the toolbar appear anymore.) I also have the extension set to access on click except for certain sites.

    This time clicking show toolbar gave me this error popup from Roboform: No browsers are active. Roboform needs a browser in which to fill/save forms.

    Has anyone else had this error?

    I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled the Roboform extension twice with no luck. Could a full Roboform uninstall/reinstall make any difference?

    I have Roboform version 9.2.4.4 installed at the moment.

      Here’s one thing to check. Click on the Roboform icon in the System Tray on the Windows Taskbar and select Options. In the Options window, click on Browsers. Does it indicate that the extension is installed with a checkmark next to it? Also, can you try Roboform in Firefox or Edge to see if the extension works there? If all else fails, you can open a support case with Roboform at their website. I’ve used their tech support in the past, and they’ve been very responsive and helpful.

        Yes, there is a checkmark and I also have the extension pinned in Chrome.

        There is a clickable install button in front of the checkmark as well, but I think that was there anyway.

        I’ve opened a support ticket, will report back if there is any news.

      After reinstalling both Roboform and Chrome I think I’ve found at least 2 parts of the problem.

      On top of the desktop Roboform thinking there is no active browser, the Roboform extension doesn’t think the desktop application is installed either

      @lancewhit

      Is there a chance that restoring my system could fix my Roboform?

      I ask because my system has both an admin and standard user account and I haven’t had any need to do a restore since I started running my system this way, so I don’t know how the system restore will will behave since I have to enter a password in order to enter either account during startup. (I always use the standard account and only enter the admin password when prompted be the UAC if I’m installing something or making changes.)

      You can try a restore, but I would make a backup first in case the restore doesn’t fix it.

      Have you tried DISM and SCANDISK to check for errors?

      cheers, Paul

        I hadn’t thought of doing either of those but since reinstalling both Roboform and Chrome multiple times (and a reset to default in Chrome’s case) have done nothing but add to my stress I guess it can’t hurt.

        Could you give me full instructions on how to do both processes?

        Would the error checking in the computer tools tab also be useful here?

      I think I’ve discovered what the problem is.

      rf-chrome-nm-host.exe is not running as it should.

      This is the Roboform native messaging host for Chrome.

      At least now I know why the application and the extension can’t see each other.

      @paul-t

      I ran an sfc scan this afternoon and it didn’t find any issues.

      As I said in my post above (#2425956) I now know that the issue is with

      rf-chrome-nm-host.exe.

      When the rf- chrome-nm-host process runs the way it should the Roboform processes are listed like this in the processes tab in the task manager:

      cmd.exe

      rf-chrome-nm-host.exe

      robotaskbaricon.exe *32

      right now the only process showing is the robotaskbaricon.exe.

      When Roboform is behaving normally and either the rf-chrome-nm-host process or the accompanying cmd process are ended by accident, (I did this when first using Roboform) the only way to get them running again is to click exit on the taskbar icon, then reactivate the taskbar icon by double clicking it in the Roboform folder in the start menu. Which puts everything back to rights.

      So far the only thing I’m fairly sure of is that it is not the cmd process at fault since I can still use other Windows related commands in a cmd window.
