This has probably been discussed but a search did not reveal it.

I am running Win 7, 64 bit, SP1, on three computers with 2 printers. One is an HP6500 office jet, the other is an Epson 620. All play well together except:

When you try to print a page from the Web (IE8) the print is cut off on the right side of the paper. Sure I can reduce the view to 60% and it all prints, but then who can read it!! (rhetorical question):(

Is this a problem purely with the size of the webpage document itself, or is it something fixable?

27741-Page-Setup-in-IEOpen IE go to file, then click on page setup. This set up has been working great for me.But each to their own.Of course once you put in the different #’s click on OK>

Open IE go to file, then click on page setup.

Mine is already set with margins at .125 This is not an isolated problem with my system — a search on google brings up lots of queries about the same thing, and no real solutions.

Some suggest exporting the page to word first, others say convert to PDF and then print. Fine if this is something you are saving for antiquity, but usually it is to have something in your hand to read! I suspect it really is a problem with the construction of the pages. It doesn’t do it on every site.

        Thanks for trying.

          Margins set @
          LEFT;0.251
          Right;0.25
          Top;0.45
          Bottom;0.844
NOT .125 I hope this bigger font clears any error in the pic.

This does not help, and shouting does not either.

BJ – Does this happen on all web sites or just certain sites? If not all sites, please provide a couple of sites that have the print cut off problem.

I think some of the Screen Capture functions of some programs can give the desired results.

Do you want to print the part of the web page that appears in your window or print everything on the web site page?

If you use Print Preview is “Shrink to Fit” selected?

You have to shrink to 60% to get it all to print, and then you cannot read it without a magnifying glass! I have tried Firefox on the same web sites and it automatically shrinks, and prints in the 60% size.

If “shrink to fit” does not produce the results you like try changing the orientation to Landscape.

I think Joe has the correct solutions.
Go into Page Setup and make sure there is a check mark next to “Enable Shrink-to-Fit”
If the Portrait mode result is too small, use Landscape mode.

For http://refillbay.com/contact-us.php I can get the print on one page by choosing Current Page.
If that is too small, use Landscape and Page 1-2.

Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me solve this. I have followed every suggestion, and it is still not corrected. I’m not going to trouble you with it further; if I ever find a solution, I’ll let you know.

Just some sites. Here are two that come quickly to hand out of the trashcan.

I have also realized that a print preview screen cuts off the text as well. To reiterate my beginning post, this happens on two different computers, on these sites.

I suspect that a “view Source” might reveal a solution, but I don’t know much about what I see in the source file.

What do you want to happen? Printing is not word processing. You can’t just “want” the displayed page to fit on a printed page at a size convenient to you and have it happen.

Thank you, Joe. That is probably the most logical answer; that the printer does NOT always print what is on the screen in the case of a web page.

It is a matter of the size as you originally speculated. The font size of the web page will not fit on a normal sized piece of paper. Thus, you need “shrink to fit” or some other mechanism to shrink the web page to the printed page size. Or you need to change the orientation of the printed page to see if that works. Or you can hope the web site has a “print this page” option that actually formats the page removing the unnecessary “stuff” so the important parts of the page print correctly.

Midnight, I frequently run into this problem. I just copy/paste the portion of the page that I’m interested into Abiword, a free word processor and print from there. Pictures will show up as black squares/rectangles. You will have to delete those and save the pictures from the web page to a folder on your machine. Then use Abiword’s menu command: Insert — Picture to put them into your Abiword document. It won’t have the layout of the web page, but all the info will be there, and you can print it. You can also change/resize the font, change the justification, etc. to your liking. It takes more time than simply printing the page, but at least you can read it.

How do You print webpages? Try from IE tools – print preview. Does it show full page without cutting edges? If so – print. Had the same problem with e-mails and discovered – it was that simple.

      • #1276024

The print preview shows the edge cut off also. I am good with Joe Perez explanation that web pages are not print documents(!) and to use landscape if absolutely necessary to print them. But thanks for the suggestion.

I notice that you are using 64-bit — are you sure you have the right printer driver installed? I think that this kind of stuff is related to the capabilities built into the driver as well as the browser so I would consider checking the forums of the printer manufacturer to see if anyone else has been having similar issues.

          Regards,

          Jim.

Been there, done that. Remember this is 3 computers and 2 printers. Different brands of computers, different brands of printers. Thanks for the effort.

Have you tried viewing the web page(s) in Compatibility Mode and then try printing?

    • #1276095

Joe hit it right. Web pages are not laid out in normal 8 1/2 x 11 orientation. Printing in landscape might capture more of the page, but as has been stated, Fit To Page will cause the printing to be quite small. I just do not think this can be accomplished. You might try highlighting what you wish to print and just printing a Selection. Other than that you are probably out of luck.
