Recently (not sure when) … I’m having trouble using Insert/Index and Tables/Table of Contents … in that mysteriously the check-box labeled Right-align page numbers is greyed-out (I’ve included a screen-shot at the end of this message to demonstrate what I’m talking about).

FYI — I’m attempting to create a Table of Contents from the TOC styles (i.e., “From template”) using Heading styles for each level …

I’ve done a quick search here, on Google, and on MS to no avail.

Anybody have a clue and/or advice?

    Thanks.

Allen, I notice that your TOC1 style has a centered alignment in the illustration in the dialog. If I use the Modify… button to center align my TOC1 style, my right-align checkbox also becomes grayed out. Changing it back fixes it, but of course, if you wanted it centered….

        Thanks that did it.

This is really interesting in that the document template I’m using is our agencies “standard” template for reports that has as far as I know always worked before w/o the left justify revision … but the last time I used it extensively was with Office 97 … so this may have been some “feature” added to 2000. FYI – the Centering for TOC1 was due to having it have more-or-less the same format as Heading 1 style (i.e., Heading 1 + Font: 10 pt , etc.), and since Heading 1 was centered so was TOC1 … which seems to force the issue for the entire TOC.

        Thanks again.

I’m so glad this thread is still accessible 22 years later! I’ve spend much more time than I’d like to admit trying to resolve this issue. Thank you, sir!
