Susan Bradley mentioned, in a post ( https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/ms-defcon-2-kicking-off-the-new-year/#post-2732944 ), that she had recently acquired a Richo ScanSnap iX1600 document scanner.
Based upon her recommendation, we acquired an iX1600 and are in the process of learning how to use it.
Overall, the ScanSnap iX1600 document scanner is going to take some getting used to.
The ScanSnap ships with its own software – ScanSnap Home as well as Kofax Power PDF.
However, I am set in my ways and wanted to continue using Adobe Acrobat Standard 2020 with the new scanner.
After an extensive internet search, I found a YouTube video with step-by-step instructions on how to incorporate Adobe Acrobat 2020 into the ScanSnap Home software ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K1MgqmkESo ).
We had been using a Canon MX870 printer/scanner/fax attached to a Windows 10 Pro Workstation. We replaced the old workstation with a new PC only to find out that the MX870 was not compatible with Windows 11 Pro thus the need for a new scanner.
Our instincts were to acquire a Brother MFC-L2820DW but were hesitant based upon our prior experience with HP’s requirement to use only HP printer supplies thus are decision to go with the Richo stand alone scanner.
Our first impression of the ScanSnap iX1600 is lukewarm due to:
- The limited documentation that shipped with the machine,
- An inability to find a manual that we could download from the Richo site,
- Complexity of sorting through the scanner’s documentation on the Richo site, and
- The small form factor of the iX1600 vs the boat anchor that it is replacing.
Now, after fiddling around with the new scanner for nearly a week we are ready to put it through its paces.
