I mentioned this free product recently in a WinXP post and never did put a cross-reference to it here in the Software board. It’s here: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware. I just ran it this morning because I was looking for the date I installed something and I received its help notice that there’s an update (version 1.42) available. I like it because I can change the “views” and sort the list by install date. The list also includes some web site addresses for those products that have one built in.

      Big AL,

Don’t mean to offend evilgrin , thought I would update your link (didn’t work for a friend who tried it). I also got an error message.

Revo Uninstaller is now Version 1.71.

BTB – Thanks fro the original post, I downloaded the program then and really like it.

Thanks for the update, Scott. Oh boy, there’s been lots of changes since the first of the year. I’m glad you told me so I can get the latest. Reading through the history, some of the changes are of interest to me.

A Heads Up, Folks! On Saturday, after doing my usual weekly backup images, I had three pieces of software update to install and the Revo 1.71 was one of the three. The other two were updates to ZA Free and FastStone Image Viewer. I finished installing all three and everything seemed to be fine until I rebooted the machine (XP MCE, fully patched). During the bootup, THAT seemed to be progressing normally with taskbar, quicklaunch bar, tray icons coming on as usual, etc. However, my screen stayed blank and it looked like the boot was finished but there were no screen icons and clicking Start did nothing. The machine seemed to be frozen, so I brought up Task Manager and there was something like 99% idle time and I only saw what looked like the usual stuff. You know how that goes.

During the course of trying to shutdown, I stumbled on the event error that said HTTPAPI.DLL had failed. I ended up having to power-off, start in Safe Mode and do some un-installing. The long story made a little short is that the REVO UNINSTALLER 1.71 “seems” to have been the problem. But you know how things like this go – it’s difficult to be positive or certain. Heads Up…

              Thanks for the heads up.

An FYI for you, Friday (5/27/2008) I had completed setting up a Compaq computer (XP Pro SP3) with ZA (Ver 7.0.470.000) and freeavast 4Home (build May 2008 4.8.1201). I had no problems.

You did not mention which machine you were using, XP or vista. I do know there was a new update for ZA Firewall Vista Version 7.1.254.000.

Could this have been part of the problem ?

            • #1114825

You must’ve missed it in the above post ’cause I said this is all on my XP MCE machine. The ZA update I was installing is the .473 version.

(I don’t remember now how I found it initially, but thanks, I DO have the 7.1.254 ZA installed in my Vista OS.)

            • #1114838

blush yep – Missed it. drop

              sorry

For a clarifying postscript to this, see my post 719,140 in the XP forum. I now DO NOT know if my problem was in fact caused by the Revo Uninstaller and, since I like the program so much, I plan to re-install it later today or tomorrow.

Magic! Looks like I’ll be able to discard (or at least place in limbo) several discrete tools that do what Revo has consolidated in to a “one size fits all” Swiss army knife. I paticularly like the “Hunter” mode for ultimate convenience.

And to top it off, it’s available in a portable version as well! cheers

          • #1114739

As I have to work on several computers, I TOTALLY forgot about this function. Putting the portable version on a thumb drive is really convenient. I wish I realized and loaded on my “Utilities” Thumb Drive earlier !

I’m on a constant scout for portable utlities and applications grin. They, along with the Google apps, are invaluable whether in an in-house support role, or switching between varied client sites. Maybe even valuable enough to lobby for a new forum? evilgrin

            • #1114745

A separate forum for portable utilities? That would be over the top, I think… grin

            • #1114749

A little plugin subforum maybe? Just a (rapidly) passing thought grin

            • #1114753

Sub forums is a feature that would be a great addition to the software, so that we could group related posts within a forum.

              Sadly it is not available.
