I have noticed something strange in the past few days. With several programs, if I click File>Save or File>Open, the files and folders in the Save As window or the Open window are listed in reverse order. (First I see files in reverse alphabetical order. then folders in reverse alphabetical order.) Again, this occurs with several unrelated programs. Any ideas? (I have Windows ME.)
    Thank you very much.

      Hi, Alan ~

Right-click on a blank area in the middle of one of those windows > ‘Arrange Icons by‘ > ‘Name‘.

You will notice that if you were to repeat this maneuver, it will reverse the order A-Z, folders first, then files to Z-A, files first, then folders.

Once you get it the way you like in a windows explorer window > ‘Tools‘ > ‘Folder Options…‘ > ‘View‘ tab > click ‘Apply to all folders‘ > ‘Apply‘ > ‘OK‘.

Also if your viewing files by “Details” you just have to click the “Name” bar at the top and it’ll arrange them A-Z, click again and it’ll arrange them Z-A.
