I’m trying to figure out how to return the actual text values from a comments field into a pivot. Isn’t there a way to concatenate any and all data similar to how the pivot will total and sum and count, etc? I’m attaching a print screen of what I’m looking for. I didn’t want to add the file because it has ODBC links back to a database, plus a lot of other stuff in it.

Pivot tables only support numeric fields in the data area, with aggregation functions such as Sum, Average, Max etc. There is no support for text fields with functions such as Concatenate. You could write a custom function and use that in formulas, but you still wouldn’t be able to incorporate it into a pivot table (i.e. if you change the layout of the pivot table, the formulas with the custom function wouldn’t adjust themselves automatically).

Thanks again Hans. I’ll see if I can return information outside of the pivot, but based on the pivot results…maybe a vlookup.
