Retrieving a missing Office button

I am using a commercial database which uses Microsoft Access. They only want you to use their menus so they have somehow made it so you can’t see the ribbon or the Office Button. Is there any keyboard shortcut or other way to retrieve the office button and get the ribbons back?

Replies

Try holding down the Shift key while opening the database. If messages are displayed during startup, hold down the Shift key until you have closed those messages.

If that doesn’t work, you’re probably out of luck.

I would like to know how to hide the ribbon and Office button in Access databases we have created for our users. We have been testing various databases we have in use and many of them we want to keep the users in the form screen. However with the ribbon and Office button they can easily get into the tables and make changes we don’t want them to make.

Thanks. I played with the startup options using version 2002 of Access. I found that by unchecking the option “Allow full menus”, and then opened the file in Access 2007, the Office button provides only the option of Close the Database rather than all the menu choices that a user could change which could cause major problems. Rather than removing the ribbon, I simply minimized it after reading a warning from Wendell in another question on the lounge that such action could cause trouble.
