Restricting Folder Permissions

I am teaching in a computer lab at a new school this fall where they are running Windows 7 for their network. I want to have a folder for each class where students can drop off assignments/tests but they can’t open the files that are already in that folder. This will be to eliminate students from copying other students’ work. My idea is they should save their work on their desktop and then drag and drop it onto a folder. This folder should not be able to be opened by the students. That would keep them from being able to open other students files. I guess it would be OK if they could get into the folder but could not execute/copy/delete any of the files other students have placed there. I have full control over the main folder for all my classes and am wanting to create a folder as described above for each student. I fooled around with our network administrator on working with the Security permissions but we could not get a folder to do as desired. Anyone know how to do this? By the way, for right now, we have a Generic Student login (we’re a small school) so I only need to set permissions for that one group. My goal is to get them to have students authenticated when they log on and to give them some space on the school server for safekeeping of their class work. Thanks for any help or ideas provided.

Yes, there is email. Not sure what that has to do with folder permissions on the network.

What Bruce was getting at is to have them email them to you then you can detach the files to the directory of your choice. There is no way that I am aware of to give people Write Only access! HTH :cheers:

Did the Network admin try setting the folder security for the Student group to List Folder Contents and Write with all other settings cleared?

I don’t know what NOS we were using four years ago but I was able to do it in previous schools….I’m not sure exactly what we tried because we were trying everything we could think of. I’ll try that on Monday.
