Maybe my two questions are silly – if so I apologize – but so far I could not find clear and straightforward answers.

I do my image backups with VBADMIN START BACKUP command, which everytime creates a WindowsImageBackup folder. Now I have a few WindowsImageBackup folders that have been created when the disk partition system was MBR.

A few days ago I have converted the disks partition system from MBR to GPT by using the MBR2GPT utility.

My question is: can I restore those “old MBR image backups” after the conversion to GPT of the disk partition system?

And the second question is: can I restore a “new GPT image backup” on the same computer if the disks partition system gets re-converted from GPT to MBR?

    Thank you!

You can restore files, but entire partitions may be a problem because MBR uses a different mechanism for finding the boot information – partition ID vs partition type.

I am a fan of 3rd party backup apps because they are more flexible than Windows backup.

      cheers, Paul
