If I wanted a way to backup and restore an iPhone, including all of the apps I have on my iPhone now, through a local backup instead of iCloud, what would be the best solution for it? Using iMazing? iTunes/Finder backups only restore settings I believe.

I usually use iCloud, but I may want to create a better local backup for both faster backups and having some other backup/restore method than relying on “the cloud”.

    Thanks!

Backup and restore from iCloud never failed on me but I think that AnyTrans will do better than iTunes in backup/restore everything.

A couple of years ago I sent in my iPhone to have its battery replaced, and I backed up and restored the whole thing locally via iTunes, apps, photos, settings and all. Maybe they’ve since removed the ability to do this, but it worked fine then. A quick search of the Apple website implies that it still works though.

It’s been removed from iTunes. I’ll compare AnyTrans and iMazing and see which one would work best for my needs. I’m ready to pivot away from iCloud restore since while it’s decent, a handful of app need tweaking after the restore, and a simpler/local option would be better. I’ll still backup to iCloud in case something catastrophic happens, but I’d like other options too.

For the reference of the OP and for future readers, this article lists what the various Apple backups don’t actually backup:

I went to check iTunes, and there is an option that says “A full backup of your iPhone will be stored on this computer.”. That’s certainly very misleading, especially since it apparently doesn’t include “Content from the iTunes and App Stores”. Full indeed!

I’ll be testing iMazing this week and will report back.
