restore firefox 5.5 bookmarks

I have somehow lost all of my firefox toolbar bookmarks. When I click on bookmsrks I get a list of all of my previous bookmarks, but I cannot restore them.
I tried the procedures outlined in firefox help, but nothing works.

Please offer any suggestions to approaches I might try. I deleted a toolbar that mysteriously appeard this afternoon and that may have caused my problem.

Does anyone know where the toolbar golder should be – that may have been destroyed.

I found the problem – in the Firefox View menu – the toolbar check mark was turned off
