• Requesting Virust Scan (Excel 2000)

Every time I start up Excel 2000 I get the flashing message, “Requesting Virus Scan” which delays the startup of Excel on a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz system by 2 to 3 minutes. I have tried various Security settings and no setting from Low to High makes any difference. What is going on? How do I safely eliminate this message — as most of the Spreadsheets I use have no Macros of any kind?

This is not a setting in Excel, but in your anti-virus software.

If you are using Norton Anti-Virus (NAV), turn off the Microsoft Office Plug-in (if it’s active). Start the NAV application, then click Options. The exact location of the check box for the Office Plug-in depends on the version of NAV.

Thanks for the information. It was a default setting in Norton SystemWorks.
