• Report not activating (W98Sr1 O2000)

Over the weekend I re-installed both windows and office to my networked (3) Pc.s

In access a report which worked OK last Friday will not now open – no error messages.

Opening design view and going through the fields is OK – but I can’t preview the fields nor go to print preview of the data.

One other report is now exhibiting this peculiar behaviour, whilst the others are OK! As far as I can tell there are no permissions set – of any description – as we 2 work together.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

      Stephen,

Does this abnormality occur for same report on both PC’s? Is this one database or does it have a split frontend/backend? And if so, does each user have own copy of frontend?

Is the recordsource for the report a table or query? Whichever it is, can you open it separately to see if it has data?

Have you tried repairing the database? You also might want to try decompiling then recompiling the database.

Mark, many thanks for the questions, the answers are:
Does this abnormality occur for same report on both PC’s? YES
Is this one database or does it have a split frontend/backend? ONE Db
Is the recordsource for the report a table or query? A QUERY – BASED ON A TABLE, TO WHICH DATA IS IMPORTED.
can you open it separately to see if it has data? BOTH Pc’s can open the table and the query and see the imported data.
Have you tried repairing the database? YES – still no joy

You also might want to try decompiling then recompiling the database Please tell me how to do that

You need to open the database using the /decompile option on the command line. It would like something like this (in reality, you would include full path to msaccess and your database):

          msaccess.exe yourdatabase.mdb /decompile

Then, open a module or just go into de######, then from menubar select Debug | Compile-and-save-all-modules.

You should always backup your database before decompiling.
