Every month, I have to add to windows explorer a Folder (month), then in that folder, add a folder for each day, which I like to date enumerate, “20071213” etc, I am looking for some way to select all the day folders, say 31 and rename them as stated, I would like to add the day also, say “20071213 Thu” but not imperitive. Any thoughts?
    Thanks. Rod.

Would it not be simpler to create the folders with the correct name in the first place, perhaps with a BATch file? (See this post at TechRepublic.com, or this at i386 for example.)

And there’s also a few suggestions here in this thread that I’ve not tried: post 291,620.

Thanks Leif, Big Al, a wonderful resource you offered, I’d like to take the batch solution, but at the moment comfortable with a solution I found myself, Good old
ACDSee ( a really early Iron age version) , I often use it in preference to Windows explorer, for navigating. I found if I select all 31 folders, I can type in the 200712## and ACDSee will use the hatch as a wildcard, so I start from 01. The batch solution is more pertinent, but I am just a little hesitant, before I have a practice. Rod.

Since we are piling on here grin Oscar’s Renamer is free. I use it to bulk rename MP3’s & photo image files.

Hi Guys, just a registration of my appreciation for the replies, I am happy to remain with ACDSee as my renamer for the time, also, I remember I am a life
member of XTree gold, (now ZTree gold) which would be an excellent renamer, if I get around to dl my XP copy. Rod.

I’ve had great success with Flash Renamer. You can find alternatives for less than twenty bucks, but I’ve found it’s paid for itself several times over as I found more and more ways to put it to use. Check out the features and test drive the trial version.

Bulk Rename Utility gets a good rap in alt.comp.freeware.

I have just tried 3 of the utlitites mentioned in this thread.

Oscar’s File Renamer and File Renamer Basic may be OK for you, but for anyone who wants to rename photos Bulk Rename Utility gets my vote – mainly because it allows you to use the Date Taken data from EXIF to rename the files.

Another plus for this one is that as you change the parameters it shows you how each file will be renamed

And finally, it will rename files in sub-folders.

I found another great renaming utility. It really looks like a great piece of software, great UI and easy to use features!
