Hi everyone
When I first set up our document control system we were running WordPerfect 4.something. Under WordPerfect, and Windows95, I was allowed to name the documents anything I liked. So I set the following convention : PM 5 1 Document Control, and PM 5 1 1 Document Change. The first space representing a dot, or period for you Yanks, and the second a forward slash to show that the Document Change is a form. Over the years we have become more realistic in that we realised that most of our peers and clients were suing the MS suite so we changed at Office 97.
Now we are running Windows 2000/XP and Office 2000/XP and the documentation is only available over our intranet. The problem I have is that when the documents are accessed via the intranet a dialogue pops up and asks if you want to Open or Save the document. This happens whenever you change documents, either forwards or backwards! I have made posts previously to see if anyone could explain why!
I have recently discovered that the problem is a naming convention one whereby accessing Word based documents with spaces or CAPS in the name from html documents causes this dialogue to pop up.
My question is; Does anyone know of a method or programme that I could use that will globally remove or replace spaces in files and replace all CAPS with lowercase. We have somewhere in region of 1000 documents to rename!
Cheers
