• Renaming a style (Word 2000)

Every so often when I try to rename a style using the Organizer, the new name gets appended to the old name (with a comma separating the old and new names) instead of the new name replacing the old name. Just now, for example, I tried to rename the “Title” style “Title UB”. I ended up with “Title,Title UB”. It won’t give me just “Title UB”.

    How can I fix this?

Title is a built-in style, just like Normal, Body Text, Heading 1, Footer etc.

You cannot rename a built-in style; any name you specify in the Modify Style dialog or in the Organizer gets appended to the “official” name. It IS possible to rename user-defined styles.

Thank you, Hans. That makes sense since, as I mentioned, this only happens to me periodically. I guess I haven’t done enough style renaming to notice that.
