I have trouble removing unwanted and unreacheabled System Image Restore Points – the ones marked yellow, but I want to keep the old ones marked red. Neither CCleaner and System Restore Explorer can’t see those ‘phantom’ restore points, and thus I’m not able to delete them. List of Shadows Copies comprises only last two points from 03 and 04 of December.
I definitely want to keep last two restore points – one system scheduled checkpoint (December 03) and one Windows backup (December 04).
In attachment I put screenshots of System Restore, CCleaner, system Restore Explorer and Vssadmin List Shadows.
    My questions are:
    1. How to remove only the ones marked yellow
    2. Does it make sense to keep the ones marked red – the are no Shadows for those points, and if not how to remove them.
    3. Who should be set as an owner of System Volume Information folder and other folders within – SYSTEM or Administrators. Right now is set to Administrators (as an owner).
    Any ideas are welcome.

How to Selectively Delete System Restore Points?

Here are two methods to delete Restore Points selectively in Windows. The first method uses the built-in console tool and the second one using a third-party tool….

Thanks Alex5723! I’d already tried all suggestions from that article. I’d opened built-in console, but as you can see in screenshot there are only shadow copies from December 03 and 04 (these ones I want to keep), so there is nothing in fact to delete. Third party tools didn’t work as well, as they don’t display System Image Restore Points in question which I want to remove from System Restore (these marked with yellow and marked with red eventually as well) – see included screenshots. Any other ideas? 🙂

I don’t see any restore point except for the first 2 and yellow/red strips.

          Upload here a jpg/png print-screen/snip file.

Thank you Alex5723 for pointing out my mistake in attachment – I had send the unfinished version. This time the attachment should show restore points in the first screenshot. I wonder, is there a way to replace the wrong attachment for the right one, for others may be confused as well.

@telesfor, please save screenshots as PNG and then attach them. Saves us downloading files and opening them manually.

      cheers, Paul

In attachment I’ve put screenshots of System Restore, CCleaner, system Restore Explorer and Vssadmin List Shadows saved as PNG (hopefully it is the correct way) and repeat questions of my message:

      1. How to remove unwanted and unreacheable System Image Restore Points marked yellow?
      2. Does it make sense to keep the old System Image Restore Points marked red– the are no Shadows for these points (they seem to be unreacheable also), and if not how to remove them?
      3. Who should be set as an owner of System Volume Information folder and other folders within – SYSTEM or Administrators. Right now is set to Administrators (as an owner)?

I definitely want to keep last two restore points – one system scheduled checkpoint (December 03) and one Windows backup (December 04).

      1. How to remove unwanted and unreacheable System Image Restore Points marked yellow?

Have you read my reply above ? In order to delete those System Image Restore Points you have to deleted the image files there is no other way.
If the image files doesn’t exist anymore the restore points can’t be deleted.

Don’t use Microsoft’s backup image app. Use the better free Macrioum Reflect, the free EaseUS to do backup..
