    I have Office 2003 installed.

The other day I clicked on an old file and it loaded Word 2002 in order to read the file. Then Word 2002 became my default WP.
Since I installed office 2003 I did not know that I still had 2002!
I then clicked on fiile that I know was a word 2003 file and it loaded and 2003 then became my default WP again.
But How do I get rid of 2002 for good, or do I need it?????

    Thanks

This is strange, for as far as I know, the file format for Word hasn’t changed since Word 97. Word 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 can read files created in each, although some features that became available in newer versions won’t be visible in older versions.

Did you have Office XP before, or perhaps a version of Microsoft Works that came with Word 2002?

To get rid of Word 2002, you must uninstall it through the Add/Remove Software control panel. Depending on how you got it, Word 2002 may be listed separately, or it may be part of Office XP. The “official” route is probably to uninstall Office 2003, uninstall Word 2002 (or Office XP), then reinstall Office 2003. You may be able to get by with uninstalling Word 2002/Office XP, then doing a repair install of Office 2003. Or you can decide to live with the dual installation, of course.

        Thanks Hans
I found Word 2000 listed in Add/Remove and Removed it. (It came with the Computer) I think that solved it. I did have office XP too, but that was not listed…. Hmmmmmmmm
        I’ll see what happens.
BTW, this started when I clicked on an old Word Perfect file , not a Word file. So that was part of the problem too. I no longer have WP and it was just trying to do the best it could……..

If it does it again I will unload Office 2003 and then clean house and load it again.
        Thanks again for the suggestions.
