Remove items from the New Document Pane (Word XP/Win XP)

I would like to remove “blank web page” and “blank email message” from my New Document pane. Does anyone have a suggestion as to the best way to do this?

OK check this article HOW TO: Edit the Most Recently Used Template List in the New Document Task Pane in Word 2002 in the MSKB. There is a section on how to remove items from the Task Pane.

Unfortunately, this tells of how to remove the MRU templates but not the 2 defaults of “blank Web page” and “blank e-mail”. Any other ideas?

You may know that Word uses the Installer to show or not show “built-in” templates. This is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 291186 – WD2002: General Questions and Answers About the Location of Word Templates. If you follow the instructions in Step

In both Word 2000 and 2002, by using the “Installer” I’ve been able to remove all the templates provided by Microsoft EXCEPT those two defaults. I’d love it if someone could come up with a way to remove these from the templates list, but so far no luck.

I’ve tried installer and you’re right, Samantha, you can’t remove these two defaults via the installation. I cannot seem to find a way to remove these. Anyone else have an inkling?
