Seeing that Windows Home Server 2011 (emphasis on 2011) was not going to be updated, further supported, or replaced with a reasonable cost option for home users, I installed Windows 10 Pro on my HP Proliant N36L server. This is where my backups go, and it offers a useful place to “park” files between the computers on my home network.
I was able to treat WHS2011 as “headless”, turn off the monitor and input devices, and do eveything (almost) over Remote Desktop. However, with Windows 10 Pro on the server, the Shutdown and Restart buttons on the Start Menu of the Remote Desktop are not available.
Most suggestions pointed me towards gpedit.msc. One looked promising: User configuration > Administrative templates > Start menu and taskbar > Remove and prevent access to the Shutdown, Restart, Sleep and Hibernate commands> Disabled
This has made no difference whatsoever.
Am I looking in the wrong place?
