I installed Cyberpower’s program to shut down my Windows 8.1 computer (an Intel Compute Stick) when the utility power fails and the Cyberpower UPS has run for 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I can no longer shut down my Intel Compute Stick running Windows 8.1 by using Shut Down in Windows. Shutdown no longer switches off the Intel Compute Stick. I get a message from Windows showing that Windows is shutting down but the power light on the Intel Compute Stick remains on. I have to power down the Intel Compute Stick by pressing the physical power button.

I have uninstalled the Cyberpower program but the problem remains. I have run CCleaner and there are no registry errors and all unneeded files have been deleted.

Can anyone recommend a third-party uninstaller, in case there are files, such as a driver file for the UPS, left behind?

No trace of Cyberpower’s program shows up in Ccleaner’s Uninstall function and nothing shows up in Windows 8.1’s Task Manager in Startup.

I would suggest that you reinstall it and use a program like IObit Uninstaller or the free version of Revo.

The free version of Revo can only see 32 bit programs but you can run the free trial of Revo Pro which will see both 32 and 64 bit.

I prefer IObit Unnstaller because of its simplicity in use.

Be careful about using IObit products, a couple of other computer forums have several threads about IObit’s products being problematic. Revo Uninstaller Pro will uninstall 64-bit stuff which its free version will only uninstall 32-bit stuff. I’ve used Revo Pro for some time now, the installation is not a problem, and almost all of the uninstalls have gone un-eventful, rather, smoothly.

I’ve been using IObit Uninstaller for a while now without any problems – it has occasionally left the odd empty folder but has cleaned out any registry residue.

I prefer its simplicity in that other than checking the box to shred files in the Deep Clean, it’s a two click operation and it’s free.

The only thing you need to look out for is in the download in that it will attempt to install Advanced System Care which can easily be uninstalled using the uninstaller should it get through.

The download from http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_uninstaller_88fa.html doesn’t have that box pre-checked but care should be taken to see if any unwanted bundled programs are included before hitting Next or Install as with any download.

Sudo15 has a great point! About all installs:
— attempt custom or advanced installs
— attempt to bypass, not use, all normal, default, express installs
Even some of my long-time favorites, mostly freebies, a few pay-fors, have this great idea of bundling extras; either by the manufacturer or by the mirror and/or 3rd party download sites.

Exactly which free version did you use back then, and, exactly how did or what Revo do to foul up your 64-bit system? I’d like to learn from you.

Can’t speak for Advanced Uninstaller Pro but up until recently I was running Ashanpoo Uninstaller 6. I used it to uninstall a program and during the uninstall I noticed it starting to uninstall parts of a completely different program. It then proceeded to trash a file used by the HTTP Service which prevented non-browser software from connecting to the Internet. I had to restore back to a previous restore point to fix the problem.

Long story short – I uninstalled Ashamppo Uninstaller and have sworn-off uninstallers forever.

Until about early 2005 I was using an uninstaller program from “Quartermaster” who had been taken over by Symantec Corp. and development ceased (I had purchased a licence for the program so was not impressed).

Sometime later in 2005 in one of Fred Langa’s email newsletters I read about “jv16 Powertools” from “Macecraft Software” ( http://www.macecraft.com/ ) and was sufficiently impressed to give it a try.

Late 2005 I purchased a “VIP Licence” for “jv16 Powertools” and have been using it ever since with 100% success.

I mainly use “jv16 Powertools” for its excellent Registry Cleaner but often also run its Software Uninstaller after program(s) refuse to uninstall in Control PanelPrograms and Features.

The cost of the “VIP Licence” was very reasonable at the time, and I haven’t since been nagged for any further payment even though I have regularly downloaded upgraded versions.

Getting certain programs uninstalled, like AVG that requires the use of their own UN-Installer, has always been somewhat of a problem. The Windows Uninstaller falls flat on its face all too often, so a third party Un-Installer is necessary.

Like has been said, there are many, and many require that you buy a license to the program.
Well, I’m not cheap, but I do like FREE, whenever I can get it.

So along those lines, I’ve tried many so-called uninstallers only to come back to the one that I like best, and that is the “Revo Un-Installer”. There is a pro ($) version, but I find that the FREE version does an exemplary job of un-installing programs and all their registry entries.

But like I eluded to earlier, if you want to UN-Install AVG, download their own AVG Removal Tool.

Since you are looking for names (and prices), I have found that Geek Uninstaller is a dandy ‘desktop’ item. I use the free version, which is just an *.exe file that sits on the desktop, and which goes ‘deep enough’ for my purposes. It uninstalls first, and then ‘cleans up’ what it finds, which probably isn’t as much as Revo (which I also have available). I too, am a long-time user of JV16, which was mentioned, and which just released the latest version the other day. Fred Langa panned it, but I still use it for certain purposes.

I’ve been using COMODO Programs Manager since I got Win 7 and a 64-bit machine (i.e., when Win7 first became available). It is free and had 64-bit eapability even then. If you use it to monitor an installation (the default behavior), when you ask it to uninstall something, it uses the built-in uninstaller for that program and then offers to also delete folders and registry entries. Those are detailed lists and you can let it delete all of them or selectively delete.

I try to remember to manually start the monitoring part of the program before I install something new, just because…
