Firstly, as a newbie, apologies if this has been covered before (I have done a search).

What I would like to be able to do is create a series of hyperlinks in a number of documents (mainly Word, but also Excel) so that I can jump from one to the other and back again. While these documents are a work in progress, I want to hide them away, but from time to time I want to publish them elsewhere for general viewing.

However, whenever I create a hyperlink (even if the link is to a document in the same folder), it creates an explicitly pathed url. Thus I lose the ability to move the suite of documents elsewhere. I’m using Word 2000.

Any help would be much appreciated.

      WELCOME!! smile
Maybe Microsoft Binder would help you out? I haven’t used it extensively but from what you’re describing I think it may be just what you’re looking for.
      hope that helps
      have fun

Right-click on the hyperlink in a Word document, then select Hyperlink/Edit Hyperlink. This allows you to change the path to a relative one.

Is this what you need to do?

        Hi Ian,

Just so you know, this is correct for Word 97.

Of course they had to go and change it for Word 2000. smile

It works in Word 2000 too, but of course you need to change hyperlinks one at a time – so File/Properties is a better approach.

          Thanks,
          Ian. cheers

      Hi rgbargy,

To create relative hyperlinks you need to go to File/Properties and set a Hyperlink base. Then when you create a hyperlink all you need is the file name.

Note that you need to save your file after you set the base to ensure the hyperlink base is used in the hyperlink.
