    Hi,

Trying to create a small add-in that checks a users PC for available and installed add-ins. I intend to do it through the registry.

Looking at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0ExcelOptions there’s a ælot of different formats in the keys there.

Some of them look like switches, eg. /F , /R , other are plain fully qualified paths and others yet again are just the file name.

    I guess that:
    1. “Just filenames” – are the ones placed in the ‘addins’ folder pointed to by the system.
    2. “The fully qualified ones” – are registered somehow through a system command??
    3. “The switches” – are ????

Can any one fill me in on the working mechanism of this part of the registry??

    THX

In the first place, you can use Excel VBA without having to go into the registry: the Application.AddIns collection contains all add-ins that are listed in Tools | Add-Ins. If the Installed property of an AddIn is True, the corresponding item is ticked in Tools | Add-Ins…

I describe how Excel manages addins in the registry here:

        Hi Jan,

Got a flashback when I re-read your article bash -and I can see that you actually already back in December answered my question blush

So thank you for the very informative and precise article. All that’s left for me now in that respect is to find out the mechanisms of the switches.

…and to Hans. I already got a piece of code that handles this through the add-ins collection. But for this particular purpose I’ll prefer to do it by means of the registry keys. Thanks for the hint anyway – I’ll keep it in mind for another time where it may come in handy / ;o)

        THX both
