How large is this file? It takes ten or fifteen minutes for my tape backup to process the registry. Most of that time the tape is not turning. What is happening?

You might try running End It All

It sounds like you’ve got some other tasks running the background that are eating up your resources, not suprising if you’re running W95…

The registry on my W98 machine is about 7MB… this size will increase the more I use my computer.

You can export the registry to your hard disk and copy it over, it may take less time, and might be safer too, I don’t touch ANYTHING when i’m backing up my registry, if the system crashes, the results could be fatal…

Please post back if you have any questions at all, and I hope that helps!

I assume that you recommend that I copy the registry to the HD, and then back-up the copy, rather than back it up directly. Sounds logical. Thank you for the comments. How do I export the registry to the HD?

          Start | Run | regedit

Under ‘Registry’ Select ‘Export Registry File’

Pick the drive/directory, and save.. then back that up instead.

          Hope that helps!

All very clear. I will do it that way. Thank you very much for your help (and patience).
