This is strange – with the pending EOL of windows 10, I got a new windows 11 computer — a desktop from hp direct. With the mouse, keyboard and monitor connected, I powered it up. After all the MS book keeping was completed, I wanted to register / add-it to my HP account, I foumd the HP info in start menu – the first screen was info on the unit and there was a link to hp.com

I got to hp.com signed in then selected the “add device” link — it prompted me for my serial number, so I did a copy and past, and hp.com came back and told me my serial number was invalid! Weird. I checked with the label on the case – the same – has anyone also had the same problem? Since is the weekend I have to wait until Monday to call customer service — I hope they can clear this up

I don’t doubt the contradiction in Registering although mine has been with Samsung TVs – Same issue that the Correct Model and/or Ser # is Invalid. Phone Sppt has Registered me in the past.

“HP Sppt” should appear in Italics with a nervous jiggle to it like emojis as I once signed up for Extended Warranty Fully Refundable in 2-Years IF Not Used. I wound up applying for a Nobel Prize (for finding the right Stealth’d phone #/ listed Phone group disbanded by then) ) after MANY daisy-chain calls around the world found the One Person in HP who cared enough to get me my Refund. Caution on Such Future Offerings. My 6-Yr-Old HP Envy desktop has been issue Free.

Just something to check? Make sure in your Copy/Paste you didn’t accidentally capture a leading/trailing blank. I’ve done this more than once and it is easy to miss.

I’ve had the same thing happen in the past when registering an appliance on the manufacturer’s website. I did the same as you and very carefully compared the actual serial number to what I had copy/pasted into the serial number field on the website and they were identical. So, I tried it again with no luck.

Getting irritated, I actually reached a person at the manufacturer’s warranty center and they told me that my serial number was legitimate, not a fake. I told her my problem with the website and asked her if I could register the appliance through the warranty call center, to which she said “No”.

She then proceeded to tell me the website was the only approved way to register the appliance. After I repeated to her my problem, she asked just how I was inputting my information into the form on the website, so I told her the truth…copy/paste. She said to enter everything in all of the fields by typing it in manually and and not to use copy/paste.

I asked what was the difference and she said that the website tech folks had told them to tell customers that the website form couldn’t tolerate input from copy/paste, but could only tolerate manual input.

So, I manually typed in all of the required information, including the serial number, and it worked! Please bear in mind that this was a decade ago, but it might still be relevant to your situation. So, try typing in all of the required information for registration manually and see if that works. Before doing so, PLEASE purge the cache of your browser so it doesn’t use cached information instead of fresh information, which could produce false results.

      I hope this helps!

When in doubt copy and paste into a plain text prog like note pad. Then copy again delete the last character and type it in. keep fingers crossed.
